FORTA is a family-owned company that manufactures orthopedic devices, including our well-known canes, walkers, wheelchairs and hoists. We know that our added value lies in the people who make up the Forta family, and it is thanks to them that we can continue to move forward every day. Get to know us!
Forta was established in late 1996 by Francisco Sánchez, an expert in aluminum extrusion, with the aim of manufacturing and distributing assistive devices. Drawing on his expertise, Francisco designed and introduced a range of aluminum products that revolutionized the market due to their lightweight construction and modern design.
Since the creation of our very first forearm crutch, Forta has grown steadily year after year, designing a broad array of canes, walkers, wheelchairs, and hoists. Our products have earned an outstanding reputation in the market, and the Forta brand has secured its place among the very best, thanks to our products' exceptional quality and revolutionary designs.
Over nearly three decades, we have patented several utility models and developed products and accessories previously unseen in the assistive device industry. Today, Forta continues to innovate and develop its own products through ongoing R&D and innovation efforts led by our technical department, supported by the entire organization. This approach serves as a fundamental pillar of our company.
Our workforce now exceeds 70 employees, spanning administration, sales, engineering, and especially manufacturing. In our 9,000-square-meter facilities in Albacete, we possess robust production capabilities and focus on comprehensive, in-house manufacturing processes. These include aluminum extrusion, plastic injection molding, as well as aluminum cutting and bending.
With a customer base of over 1,500 clients, Forta has brought millions of assistive devices to the market throughout the years. Forta is a prestigious brand and a leader in the sale of walkers.
With over 25 years of experience in the orthopedic devices sector, our products provide guaranteed quality and safety that all our customers can rely on. All our products are CE certified and comply with all stringent health regulations required at the European level.
By maintaining full control over virtually every step of the manufacturing process, Forta ensures the highest quality standards in all of our products. Our items undergo rigorous testing that surpasses European benchmarks. We operate our own test benches to carry out the necessary trials, guaranteeing premium quality.
Additionally, our products are sent to the Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia (IBV) for independent testing, confirming that our methods and outcomes have always been and remain correct.
In compliance with European MDR regulations, Forta follows the ISO 13485 quality standard and has undergone several external audits to verify our implementation. Furthermore, as a manufacturer of medical devices, we must meet all requirements set by the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) to secure the necessary licenses.
At Forta, we understand that quality is paramount. For the well-being of the end users of our products, we ensure that our processes consistently deliver safe, reliable, and high-quality products.
We are proud to say that our products are 100% designed, developed, and manufactured in Albacete, Spain. This includes everything from the extrusion of aluminum tubes and the injection of plastic parts to the placement of the final screw and the final packaging.
All products distributed by Forta are designed and manufactured entirely on our premises. Our team of engineers oversees the design and certification of every product, from the first forearm crutch we introduced in 1996 to the latest walkers and wheelchairs. Moreover, we embrace a philosophy of continuous improvement, ensuring our assistive devices are always at the forefront of the market.
In 2022, we completed the installation of a 650-ton extrusion plant in our facilities. Thanks to this new plant, Forta now extrudes its own aluminum profiles, which we use to manufacture all our products. This advancement not only assures superior quality but also greatly increases our production capacity.
We operate over a dozen plastic injection molding machines, reducing our reliance on external suppliers and further guaranteeing product quality through comprehensive control of every process stage. The vast majority of plastic components used in our products are molded in-house from the finest materials.
The entire manufacturing process also takes place in our facilities in Albacete. We maintain assembly lines for all our products, whether canes, walkers, wheelchairs, or patient lifts. Once production is complete, our logistics team dispatches these products to customers worldwide. We follow a "just-in-time" approach, minimizing inventory and enhancing our agility to meet customer demand.
At Forta, we strive to minimize our environmental impact by undertaking various initiatives, such as exclusively using recycled plastic bags and generating a significant portion of our energy through solar panels.
All Forta walkers and canes are shipped with a protective cover to prevent any damage during transit. For many years, Forta has ensured that these covers are made from recycled materials, helping to minimize our environmental impact.
Throughout the manufacturing process, aluminum, plastic, cardboard, and other recyclable materials are collected and sent to their respective recycling streams. For instance, all aluminum scrap is transferred to specialized companies that melt it down, converting it into new raw material ready for reuse. Plastics are ground on-site and reused for injecting new components.
Forta has installed its own 200 kW photovoltaic array on the rooftop of our facilities. This installation ensures that a significant portion of the electricity consumed during normal operations is emissions-free.
